Biography
Md. Abdus Salam Khan is the IRB Coordinator at ICDDR,B (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh) and has been in this role since 2006. He is responsible for managing and coordinating the Institutional Review Board (IRB) functions, including overseeing committees such as the Research Review Committee (RRC), Ethical Review Committee (ERC), and Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee (AEEC). He has been instrumental in planning and administering the approval processes for clinical trials, research protocols, and providing training on bioethics and good clinical practices. With an MBA in AIS and a Master’s in English from the University of Dhaka, Khan has extensive training in bioethics, clinical research, and administrative functions. His career spans over 28 years, including roles in administrative management at ICDDR,B and in marketing services at CIBA-GEIGY (now Novartis). He has participated in various international bioethics and medical conferences.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinating and managing the IRB’s day-to-day activities and meetings.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and ethical standards.
- Reviewing and preparing research protocols for review and approval.
- Preparing meeting agendas, notices, and distributing relevant documents to members.
- Maintaining records of all IRB decisions and communications.
- Communicating with investigators regarding protocol submissions, modifications, and approvals.
- Ensuring timely follow-up on post-approval monitoring and reporting.
- Supporting IRB Chairperson in administrative tasks and decision-making processes.
- Providing training and guidance on ethical research practices.
